Case Recording Policy and Staff Guidance Section 17, Records Must Usually be Retained After Closure has been updated with to include a link to Children’s Services – Retention of Records table which provides an overview of the retention requirements for different types of Children’s Social Care Records.
Health Care Assessments and Plans Section 1, Health Care Assessments has been updated with regard to consent to medical treatment.
Preparation for Leaving Care This chapter has been extensively updated and should be read throughout.
Leaving the Home This chapter has been updated and should be read throughout.
Key Worker Guidance Section 1, Management of Key Workers has been updated to reflect that young people in mainstream homes are cared for by all adults so the role of keyworker is overseen by Principal staff.
Positive Intervention and Restraint Section 4, Criteria for using Physical Interventions has been updated in September 2018 to include a child/young person can be prevented from the leaving the home if it is felt they are at significant harm with regards to sexual exploitation, gang related activities or radicalisation.
Contact with Parents / Carers / Siblings and Others Section 1, Approving and Planning Contact has been updated to reflect that maintaining contact with siblings from both the same or different parents who cannot be placed together should be prioritised. Independent Reviewing Officers should ensure that Looked After Reviews consider whether contact arrangements including sibling contact in Care Plans has been implemented and that the child is happy with the contact – both its frequency and its quality. The IRO should inform the child that they can access Advocacy Services if they have a complaint.
Recognising Abuse and Neglect Guidance This chapter has been extensively updated and should be read throughout.
Referring Safeguarding Concerns This chapter replaces the original chapter Child Protection Referrals and should be re-read.
Allegations Against Staff and Volunteers This chapter has been extensively updated and should be read throughout.
Recruitment and Monitoring Section 1, Suitability to Work with Children has been updated to reflect that all recruiting managers will have completed the Safer Recruitment training.
Countering Bullying and Peer Abuse This chapter has been extensively updated and should be re-read.
Social Worker Visits This chapter has been extensively updated and should be re-read
Smoking and Alcohol This chapter has been extensively updated and should be re-read.
First Aid, Over the Counter Medication Appendix 2: Specific Issues re Administration of Medication, Covert Administration of Medication has been updated with regards to an MDT approach would be needed to agree this / formulise.
Rostering and Handover Procedure including Sleeping In and Night Security This chapter has been extensively updated and should be read throughout.
Organisational Structure/Manager Contacts An updated version has been added.
