Statements of Purpose This chapter has been updated with new Statements of Purpose.
Case Recording Policy and Staff Guidance A note was added into Section 17, Records must Usually be Retained After Closure to remind all staff no children’s social care records should be destroyed while the National Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse is on-going.
Looked After Reviews Additional information was added in to Section 2, Frequency and Arranging Looked After Reviews, in relation to if the IRO has concerns about the child’s case e.g. that the Care Plan is not being properly progressed, this needs to be addressed through the Dispute Resolution Procedure.
Overnight Stays and Social Visits This chapter was extensively updated and should be read throughout.
Allegations Against Staff This chapter was extensively updated and should be read throughout.
Drugs and Substance Misuse This chapter was extensively updated and should be read throughout.
Advocacy and Independent Visitors This chapter has been updated to add a link to the Children’s Society ‘Advocacy services for children and young people – a guide for commissioners’. This guide outlines the legislative requirements of local authorities in the provision of advocacy support to children in need and looked after children.
Bedrooms Section 3, Staff/carers Presence in Bedrooms has been updated to include the exceptional circumstances where staff may have to enter a child's bedroom without knocking or asking permission also include to conduct night-time checks if a young person is under the influence of alcohol or substances or is unwell.
Sexual Health and Relationships Section 3, Pornography has been updated to include advice for staff on how to deal with issues relating to young people’s access to pornography online.
Transporting Children This chapter has been updated to reflect changes to the laws around booster seats and babies who now need to stay in rear facing seats until 15 months.
Monitoring Quality Section 2, Review of Quality of Care has been updated to reflect that the Regulation 44 Report should make explicit judgements about the leadership and management of the home, whether a safe and protective environment is provided for children in the home, the quality of care, planning and progress of children living in the home.
